Mobley seeks re-election in RDFFG Electoral Area A

The community hall was destroyed by fire, but Mobley said its ownership by the Regional District has helped speed up plans for reconstruction.

According to Mobley, insurance coverage will cover the cost of replacing the facility, meaning taxpayers will not be responsible for the rebuilding costs. He said a community consultation committee is also examining potential upgrades, including a larger kitchen and other enhancements, with grant funding opportunities being explored.

Mobley expects construction planning details to be shared with residents soon, noting the hall must be rebuilt within the insurance timeline, which he estimates expires sometime next year.

Beyond the hall project, Mobley said Electoral Area A continues to face challenges balancing residential development with environmental protection.

The area, which includes significant agricultural land and numerous lakes and waterways, has limited industrial development. Mobley said future planning efforts must ensure the region’s natural assets are protected while still allowing property owners to make reasonable use of their land.

“There’s a lot of nuance to that,” he said.

As he seeks another four-year term, Mobley says his strength as a director has been accessibility.

The 38-year-old husband and father of four lives on a farm in the Salmon Valley and works as branch manager of an industrial supply company. He said he has made a point of meeting residents directly and helping them navigate local issues, even when they fall outside Regional District jurisdiction.

Voters in Electoral Area A will choose between Mobley and a Greg Austman when they cast their ballots in the upcoming local government election on October 17.
