Provincial, municipal campaigns collide as voters face two elections at once
PRINCE GEORGE – British Columbians are now balancing two election campaigns at the same time, with the provincial election overlapping municipal races already underway across the province.
The timing has drawn criticism from some local government leaders who had hoped the provincial vote would wait until after municipal elections conclude on October 17. Concerns have been raised that provincial issues could overshadow local campaigns and make it more difficult for municipal candidates to get their messages across.
UNBC political science lecturer Jason Morris acknowledges the overlap is unusual, but believes voters are capable of keeping both elections in perspective.
