Riding renamed Cariboo—Prince George—Omineca

PRINCE GEORGE — The federal electoral district represented by Conservative MP Todd Doherty has officially received a new name.
Effective immediately, the riding formerly known as Cariboo—Prince George will now be called Cariboo—Prince George—Omineca. The change follows consultations with residents throughout the constituency and comes after Bill C-25 received Royal Assent.
Doherty says the name change was driven in part by feedback from residents in the Vanderhoof area who felt the previous riding name did not fully represent the communities they call home. The addition of “Omineca” is intended to better reflect the region’s geography, history and identity.
“Our riding is one of the largest in Canada and covers a vast and diverse area, and it’s important that its name reflects the people and communities it represents,” Doherty said in a news release announcing the change.
