Foothills Crossing adds 199 rentals

Community leaders, project partners and residents attended the official opening ceremony, which included a blessing led by Lheidli T’enneh Elder Margaret Flemeau and remarks from company officials.

For Kelson Group, the completion of Foothills Crossing expands a rental housing portfolio that now includes more than 800 residential units across 12 buildings in Prince George.

The project was constructed during a period that brought significant challenges to the building industry, including labour shortages and rising costs.

“We did start during Covid, and there were certainly trade shortages or some cost pressures all along. And the building industry, and I think that’s probably been our biggest challenge here, is just, being able to have enough workers and some of the costs that have been involved to, to finish the building,” said Kelson Group President Jason Fawcett.

Despite those obstacles, construction continued and all three buildings are now complete and occupied.

The development features landscaped common areas, a playground, resident gathering spaces and architectural design elements intended to complement the surrounding area.

Housing availability remains a concern in many communities across British Columbia, including Prince George, where population growth and demand have put pressure on rental markets in recent years.

Kelson Group says the additional rental options will help meet growing housing demand while giving residents more choice in the local market.

Fawcett believes the addition of nearly 200 rental homes will have a noticeable impact on housing availability in the city.

“The rental supply, 200 apartments being added to a community of the size of Prince George’s is significant, and it just gives renters more options. And and, when they’ve got more options and they just have, more choices, it keeps their, the costs down to a certain extent. So it’s always good for, for renters have choices.”

The company says Foothills Crossing is intended as a long-term investment in Prince George and will serve residents for years to come. For renters, the completion of the project means nearly 200 additional housing options are now available in one of northern B.C.’s fastest-growing communities.
