Elders’ stories preserved for future
PRINCE GEORGE – The wisdom, resilience and lived experiences of Carrier and Sekani Elders took centre stage this week as Carrier Sekani Family Services wrapped up its 2026 Strength for All Elders Conference with the release of a landmark publication aimed at preserving Indigenous knowledge for future generations.
The three-day conference, held at the Prince George Civic Centre, brought together Elders and Elders-in-Training from the 11 member Nations served by Carrier Sekani Family Services. Participants took part in cultural workshops, wellness activities, health presentations and discussions focused on language, tradition and community wellbeing.
While the gathering provided an opportunity for Elders to share knowledge face-to-face, organizers say one of the most significant moments of the conference was the unveiling of TS’IYEWH TS’HILHTUS: Strength for All, a book years in the making that captures the stories, teachings, photographs and lived experiences of Carrier and Sekani Elders.
