Labour Council hosting all-candidates forum in Prince George Sunday

The afternoon will begin with a welcome from Elder Darlene McIntosh before moving into the school trustee forum. Sessions featuring mayoral and council candidates will follow, with short breaks scheduled between each segment.

Johnson said organizers have taken a slightly different approach to the format this year. Rather than asking every candidate the exact same questions, moderators will vary questions in an effort to cover more topics and gather more detailed responses from participants.

Questions have been prepared by the Labour Council’s civic caucus, but audience members will also have the opportunity to submit questions during the event. Organizers will collect questions on cue cards and group together those covering similar topics.

Johnson said the Labour Council sees the forum as an important community service because municipal governments play a significant role in residents’ daily lives, from local infrastructure and services to education and public policy.

The forum is free to attend and open to the public.

Johnson is encouraging residents who are undecided about their vote to attend and hear directly from the candidates.

“I keep seeing on social media people talking about who do I vote for and what should I do,” she said. “This is an opportunity to really hear from them.”

Municipal voters head to the polls next month to elect a mayor, city council and school board trustees.
