Prince George-The Prince George Spruce Kings enjoyed a perfect weekend on home ice, defeating the West Kelowna Warriors on Friday before following it up with a victory over the Salmon Arm Silverbacks on Saturday at Kopar Memorial Arena.

The offensive fireworks began Friday night against the Warriors. Prince George got on the board early when Mason Loewen scored a shorthanded goal to make it 1-0. Loewen wasn’t finished there, adding a power-play marker later in the opening period to double the Spruce Kings’ lead. Cooper Faughnan also found the back of the net before the end of the frame as Prince George skated into the first intermission with a 3-1 advantage.

The Spruce Kings continued to control the game in the second period. Dominic Szczygiel extended the lead to 4-1 before Michael Denney added another goal to make it 5-1. Daniel Podvalov also scored as Prince George put the game out of reach and maintained a comfortable cushion heading into the third period.

Any hopes of a Warriors comeback were quickly extinguished in the final frame. Ryan Wachtel added to the Spruce Kings’ offensive outburst, while Faughnan scored his second goal of the night. Prince George cruised to an impressive 8-3 victory, showcasing its offensive depth and special-teams success.

The momentum carried over into Saturday’s matchup with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks.

After Salmon Arm opened the scoring, the Spruce Kings responded late in the first period when Rhett Tubello found the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1.

Prince George grabbed its first lead of the night in the second period as Michael Denney capitalized to make it 2-1 heading into the final twenty minutes.

Denney came through again in the third period, this time with a shorthanded goal to extend the lead to 3-1. The Silverbacks battled back with a goal to make it a one-goal game, but Ryan Wachtel put the contest away with an empty-net marker in the closing moments.

The 4-2 victory completed a successful weekend sweep for the Spruce Kings, who outscored their opponents 12-5 over the two games. Strong special-teams play, balanced scoring, and solid performances throughout the lineup helped Prince George improve to 2-0 on the weekend and build momentum as the BCHL season continues.
