Mayoral candidates highlight governance, transparency and inclusion at all candidates forum
PRINCE GEORGE — Residents had the opportunity to hear directly from Prince George’s mayoral candidates during an all-candidates forum hosted by the North Central Labour Council on Sunday, with discussions focusing on governance, transparency, public engagement, inclusion and the relationship between council and city administration.
The forum featured several candidates vying to become Prince George’s next mayor, each outlining their vision for how City Hall should operate and respond to community concerns.
Incumbent Councillor Kyle Sampson emphasized the importance of strong leadership from council, arguing that elected officials must provide clear direction to city staff through a strategic plan developed at the beginning of a council term.
Sampson said staff can only act effectively when council establishes clear priorities and expectations. While staff provide expert recommendations, he stressed that elected officials ultimately hold decision-making authority and should be responsible for setting the city’s course.
