PRINCE GEORGE — It was a weekend of points gathered and a weekend of setbacks for the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) Timberwolves soccer program over the weekend.

The UNBC Timberwolves men’s soccer team, still in search for their first win of the 2026 Canada West season, earned another pair of draws at home.

The T-Wolves ended up in a 2-2 tie with the University of Alberta Golden Bears Friday (Oct. 2) from Masich Place. First-year defender Luis Hirsh and second-year midfielder Kaiden Young, a D.P. Todd Secondary graduate, scored within the first 29 minutes to give the T-Wolves a 2-1 lead.

However, UNBC surrendered a goal in the 67th minute to settle for the 2-2 draw. Second-year goalkeeper Owen Shum made seven saves for the T-Wolves.

On Sunday (Oct. 4) the Timberwolves men’s team tied with the Mount Royal University Cougars 1-1. UNBC surrendered the opening goal in the 71st minute but fourth-year defender Koss Nystedt scored his second goal of the season nearly 10 minutes later to help the T-Wolves secure the point. First-year goalkeeper Callum Cuthbert made three saves for UNBC.

Elsewhere, the Timberwolves women’s team were blown out and shut out in a pair of matches. The T-Wolves fell to the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) Cascades 5-0 in Abbotsford on Friday and 6-0 to the University of British Columbia (UBC) Thunderbirds at Masich Place on Sunday.

The T-Wolves men have zero wins, four losses and six draws in 10 matches, good for sixth in the Canada West Pacific Division. UNBC trails the 6-3-3 UFV Cascades for the fourth and final Pacific Division playoff spot with six matches remaining in their season.

The T-Wolves women have zero wins, eight losses and zero draws in 10 matches, which places them seventh and last in the Pacific Division. UNBC trails the UFV Cascades for the fourth and final Pacific Division playoff spot by 11 points with six matches remaining in their season.

Both T-Wolves men’s and women’s soccer teams are in Kelowna on Friday (Oct. 9) to take on the UBC Okanagan Heat and Kamloops on Saturday (Oct. 10) to play the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack.
