ROBSON VALLEY-CANOE — Incumbent Area H Director Dannielle Alan is seeking a fourth term representing the Robson Valley-Canoe area in the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George.

Alan faces former McBride councillor Joe Kolida in the October 17 municipal election.

Speaking with CKPG News, Alan said one of her biggest priorities has been ensuring local residents have a strong voice in decisions that affect the valley.

“We collect taxpayer money. We need to make sure that we’re spending it in a way that benefits the people who live in our valley,” she said.

Alan said community safety would remain a top focus if re-elected. She pointed to emergency management planning, research partnerships examining climate-related risks, and wildfire preparedness initiatives as key areas of work.

Among those initiatives was a FireSmart incentive program launched in 2022 that provided rooftop sprinkler systems to residents who completed a home wildfire assessment.

Alan said the program proved valuable when the 2023 McBride-area wildfires threatened properties in the region.

Looking ahead, she identified food security and support for local agriculture as another major priority.

“It is so important that we have regenerative agriculture, that we support our farmers,” she said, noting agriculture remains a cornerstone of the Robson Valley economy and way of life.

A third priority is strengthening community connections through support for volunteers, recreation groups, service clubs and local organizations.

Alan, who moved to the Robson Valley from Vancouver Island in 2005, said she chose the region because of its strong community spirit and opportunities for families.

She became involved in local organizations shortly after arriving, later serving with the Chamber of Commerce before entering local government.

Residents in Area H will choose between Alan and Kolida when they head to the polls on October 17.
