PRINCE GEORGE — BC Highway Patrol is using unmarked “ghost” cruisers to target dangerous driving near Prince George, with two drivers recently caught travelling more than 70 kilometres an hour over the speed limit.

On October 1, a 36-year-old Harrison Mills man driving a Dodge Ram 3500 was stopped on Highway 97 North after police say radar clocked the vehicle at 121 kilometres an hour in a 50 zone.

The following evening, a 22-year-old Surrey man was stopped on Highway 97 South near Pollard Road after allegedly travelling 123 kilometres an hour in a 50 zone. Police say the novice driver was also served a three-month driving prohibition for previous offences.

Both drivers received $483 excessive-speed tickets and had their vehicles impounded for seven days. Police say towing, impound fees and higher insurance costs will push the financial consequences to at least $2,300 for each driver.
