New and Controversial
PRINCE GEORGE – The BC NDP are asking British Columbians to vote on something different this fall, a new form of government called proportional representation. And tonight, BC Green MLA, Sonia Furstenau is in the city to talk about what it means for Northern BC.
This October, Government will be asking residents if they support the current first-past-the-post system or one of three different models of proportional representation: dual-member, mixed-member or rural-urban. The issue has divided political stripes, with those in the north opposed, fearing it will over-represent the larger urban populations.
Furstenau says the key is to ensure the information is fact-based and not fear-mongering and hopes to get this message across at a public discussion tonight. The meeting is planned from 7 to 9 at Books and Company.
