Wanda’s Weight Loss Journey

PRINCE GEORGE- The Humane Society was busy this year, with many success stories of animals they’ve rehomed. There is one animal in particular that sticks out from the bunch. Her name is Wanda, and she’s been on quite the weight loss journey. She was surrendered to the society as her previous owners knew they wouldn’t be able to care for her anymore as she had become too fat to walk properly or groom herself and was at high risk for heart disease, arthritis, and other health problems. Then, Jennifer McLachlan from the Ospika Animal Hospital adopted her and started her on a workout and diet regime. She is now down 1.4 pounds to 28.6 pounds but she has a long way to go, her ideal body weight is about 15 pounds. She has a walker to allow her to move around the house more easily and their family has been encouraging Wanda to get her exercise in. The Ospika Animal Hospital has a nutrition specialist on site to help others with overweight animals.

That’s just one story from the Humane Society this year. Executive Director, Angela Mclaren, says there are a handful of others that stand out this year. The Society typically spends about 150 thousand dollars a year to care for those animals and relies on donations from the community. Mclaren encourages others in the community to donate during the giving season to ensure more animals can find happy homes in 2019.
