No Immediate Change For Education Funding
PRINCE GEORGE – “There’s a lot on the plate in 2019.”
That’s why Tim Bennett, Chair of the Board of Education for School District 57, is pleased the Province has decided not to tinker with the funding formula for K to 12 education.
The final report of the Funding Model Review Panel was released today, with 22 recommendations and Bennett says he’s pleased to see some of them recognize the differences between rural and urban delivery of education.
For instance, Recommendation 1 reads: “The Ministry should allocate funding for specific needs first, and then allocate the remainder of funding based on per-student basis,” while Recommendation 4 reads: “The Ministry should consolidate and simplify existing geographic funding supplements,” and Recommendation 5 suggests “The Ministry should replace all current supplements for enrolment decline and funding protection with a new, transitional, mechanism.”
