Distracted Driving Campaign Wraps Up
PRINCE GEORGE – RCMP have wrapped up their campaign to pull over distracted drivers in the city. The project ran from the beginning of February to the end of March.
Ninety-two tickets were issued for using a cell phone, five tickets for driving while the view or controls are blocked and 10 tickets for driving without due care and attention. Officers also found and charged 140 people failing to wear a seatbelt.
“These numbers demonstrate the need for more distracted driving enforcement,” says Sgt. Matt LaBelle of the Prince George RCMP’s Traffic Services Section. “Even though this campaign is now over, we will continue to seek out drivers on their phones.”
Police would like to remind drivers that if they need to make a call or check messages, use a hands-free device or park their vehicle in a safe spot off the road, but not the shoulder of the highway.
