Wood Stove Exchange Underway
The Prince George Air improvement Roundtable is using the air quality advisory to remind residents that improving the air is not just a one-time thing and is reminding residents of the Wood Stove exchange program.
“Ideally we wouldn’t wait until there’s an air quality advisory to be concerned about our air quality. We do have an air quality issue and, partly, it’s the winter weather that traps pollutants in our bowl,” says the Program’s Manager Kim Meneunos. “And, especially when it’s cold, people tend to crank up their wood-burning appliances.”
She says it still has funds available for the wood stove exchange program, enough to provide about 25 rebates. The government rebates equal $250 for changing to a cleaner-burning wood stove and $400 for changing to a qualifying heat pump, gas or propane stove, or a pellet-fueled stove.
However, Menounos says PGAIR hands out additional rebates.
