PRINCE GEORGE – Prince George is enjoying its lowest unemployment rate in memory.  The June rate fell to 4.1 percent, down half a point over the last month and down nearly 2 points over the last year.

But despite the good news, the actual number of people working dropped marginally from May.  Statistics Canada says 51,500 people were working in Prince George in June, 100 fewer than in May. It says the number of people working or looking for work was down as well.

British Columbia continues to lead Canadian provinces in unemployment figures.  However, the rate in June increased from 4.8 percent to 5.2 percent.

Nationally the jobless rate increased from 5.8 percent to 6.0 percent last month, despite an increase of more than 30,000 jobs across the country.
