Rescue Warns Of Rabbit Gifting Over Holidays

PRINCE GEORGE – Rabbits are sometimes given as gifts over Easter, but a local rescue group is warning against impulsive bunny buys. Jenni Bomford, a volunteer with Two Bunnies Rescue, warns that as a pet, bunnies often don’t work out for either the rabbit or the child.

“It’s notorious amongst rabbit rescues that a month or two after Easter they will start to get rabbits surrendered to them. Because people didn’t realize that they are a long-term commitment, that they take a lot of care and that they are not that cheap to keep and raise,” says Two Bunnies Rescue volunteer Jenni Bomford.

Bombford suggests the ideal home for a bunny is a quiet household with working adults.

Two Bunnies Rescue has 23 rabbits currently in foster care. The rescue plans to expand in the next year with their own location which will house surrendered bunnies. Bombford says she hopes parents will remember that being the Easter bunny is not in a rabbit’s job description.
