Timberwolves Bottle Drive To Benefit Young Cancer Patient

PRINCE GEORGE- The Timberwolves Student Athlete Society is once again collecting bottles for a good cause. This year, the money will be split between a local athlete who is battling a rare type of cancer and children’s cancer research. Jake McLeod has aggressive fibromatosis and it has forced his family to travel to Vancouver with him every few months for the past four years. “It’s not really treatable the same way as other cancers, nothing works the same way, or acts the same way,” said McLeod, “normal surgery won’t get rid of it, it will just grow back faster and more aggressive than the last time, and it doesn’t like to react to a lot of medicines.”

Last year, the Timberwolves raised around three thousand dollars and they hope to pass it this year. Athletes will set up shop on Saturday afternoon from nine until two to collect bottles and cans in the CN Centre parking lot. Students will also go door to door around the CN Centre but will pick up bottles from any neighbourhood.  “We’ll come and pick up bottles all the way from College Heights to the Hart even, whatever it takes,” said president, Francesco Bartolillo. If you take your own bottles to the depot, an account has been set up at the Prince George Recycle and Return-it Centre under Jake McLeod’s name.
