Quesnel Mayor Acclaimed
QUESNEL – Just over 7,500 Quesnel residents are eligible to cast a ballot at the polls this Saturday. But they will not be voting for a mayor. That’s because incumbent Bob Simpson has joined the ranks of more than 35 other BC mayors who have been acclaimed, meaning, no one ran against them.
“Because I’ve been acclaimed I’ve had the luxury to sit down with all the candidates, including the incumbents, and talk about what their aspirations are,” says Simpson. “What they’re hoping to achieve, what they see as the issues and challenges and really begin to build the relationship.”
Three of the six incumbent Council candidates are not running again, which guarantees at least three new faces around the table this Fall.
Simpson says he hopes this new Council will work as a unified front on things like housing and petty crime, while continuing to support the more traditional sectors, like forestry and agriculture.
