Lost Snowmobiler Shares Story At AdventureSmart Event
What started as a snowmobile ride on nearby fields, ended hours later, only because of a strong will to survive. Now a local woman is sharing her story with others, in hopes they will learn from her mistakes. Melody Chamberlain went out for a snowmobile ride and got stuck less than 5 kilometres from home. Alone and without the essentials to spend the night, she decided to walk home in waist deep snow. Wet and exhausted she called 911. But with no way to signal search crews, her life was slipping away. Prince George Search and Rescue found her at three in the morning. She was suffering from severe hypothermia. Now five years later, Melody is sharing her story of survival. And how luck may have played a factor. Melody will be speaking at Thursday night’s AdventureSmart program at UNBC’s Canfor Theatre. The national program educates outdoor enthusiasts on the risks and hazards of the backcountry.
