Prince George Among The Top Three For Teddy Bear Donations
The annual Share-A-Bear campaign is back across BC. Last year, Prince George was among the top three for teddy bear donations. Fort St. John and Dawson Creek also topped the rest of the province. The campaign is a BC Liquor initiative. Shoppers purchase a pair of teddy bears for $12.50, and one is donated to a local charity. Since the program’s creation in 1989, almost 650,000 bears have been donated. Employees at each BC Liquor store pick which community organization to donate to. BC Liquor employees say they’ve donated to several local charities in the past, including the Salvation Army.
“We count on those strong partnerships that we’ve had historically,” said Captain Neil Wilkinson,”where all of those proceeds go is to families and children that would otherwise not have access to a really wonderful Christmas.” Wilkinson also said the Salvation Army has seen some of those Share-a-Bears in the sea of stuffed animals during the annual Teddy Bear Toss at the CN Centre. This year, about 25,000 bears have been distributed for sale to 197 BC Liquor stores.
