Slides Close Highway 1 Near Chilliwack

Two separate mudslides have severed Highway 1 between Chilliwack and Hope, but a detour means travellers between the Interior and Lower Mainland can still get around the blockage.
The muck and debris came down overnight just east of Bridal Falls in the eastern Fraser Valley and there’s no word yet when the route might reopen. Drivers can detour via highways 9 and 7 at Agassiz.
Other problems around the province include a mudslide on Highway 40 west of Lillooet that has isolated the communities of Gold Bridge and Bralorne until further notice, while travel on Highway 20 between Bella Coola and Williams Lake is not recommended because of freezing rain.
