Today marks the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance. It’s a day to commemorate the lives lost all around the world because of transphobic violence. Here in Prince George, the University of Northern British Columbia has put on an event to raise awareness and acknowledge transphobia in the community. The event took place at the Canfor Winter Garden and included a moment of silence to pay tribute to all those lives lost.
“We wanted to hold this event because of one of the only physical safe spaces in Northern B.C. we feel its important to hold this to say that we are a safe space for trans people and we acknowledge that transphobia is relevant in our community,” said Krystal Vandenverg, President of Northern Pride Society.
