Campfire Ban Could Be Lifted This Weekend
PRINCE GEORGE- Cooler temperatures and precipitation have helped firefighting efforts across the region, with more in the forecast for the rest of the week. The Shovel Lake fire remains the largest in the Prince George Fire Centre at just over 92 thousand hectares, but officials are confident it won’t grow outside of the existing perimeter. “A lot of the larger fires are being moved to being held status,” said information officer, Forrest Tower, “in conjunction with the work crews are putting in and the weather we’re getting, we’re heading to winding down for a lot of the bigger fires.”
There is more good news. For those who have been waiting to spark up a campfire, there is a glimmer of hope for the weekend. “We’re looking at lifting some of the campfire bans before this weekend,” added Tower, “at this point, category two and three will stay in effect for a little while longer.” An official announcement is expected later this week. At this point, campfires are still banned in the Prince George Fire Centre.
