Council Remuneration Reviewed

PRINCE GEORGE — Mayor and Council have launched a review of what they get paid.
Every four years, the remuneration bylaw is looked over and an independent committee comes back with recommendations.
Currently, the Mayor’s remuneration is $92,787 while Councillors are remunerated annual at $30,929.
However, there are new rules coming into effect January 1st, in which the federal government is clawing back some of the tax breaks civic officials receive.
Because this is an election year, the Committee must come back with a new bylaw and recommendations by the end of June.
As Councillor Garth Frizzell pointed out, the last bylaw and recommendations were turned down by Mayor and Council nor do the recommendations normally translate into a “raise.”
