Work Continues to Restore Drinking Water at Some District 57 Schools
School District 57 is working on fountains and fixtures within several schools as part of its lead mitigation plan. Upgrades have been made to Heritage Elementary and the John McInnis schools, while work continues on nine others.
They include –
Beaverly Elementary
College Heights Elementary
Foothills Elementary
Nusdeh Yoh Elementary
Peden Hill Elementary
Pinewood Elementary
Polaris Montessori Elementary
Vanway Elementary
Westwood Elementary
The schools listed above are still required to flush water according to Northern Health guidelines or use bottled water to drink. Superintendant Marilyn Marquis-Forster says the fixture upgrades are a small price to pay for the safety of students and its hoped the project is finished by the end of the calendar year. Back in June of 2016, a number of district 57 schools were found to have higher concentrations of lead than allowed through the Canadian Drinking Water Quality Guidelines.
