Winter Highway Woes

PRINCE GEORGE — Rapid changes in weather can make highway conditions unpredictable during the winter months. According to North District RCMP Traffic Service, the conditions are making the highways slippery and in some sections, there are whiteout conditions.

According to DriveBC, there’s compact snow and slippery sections in all directions from Prince George on both Highway 16 and 97.

ICBC reminds motorists to drive to the road conditions and not the posted speed limit. They recommend that before heading out on the highway, to be prepared for the unexpected. As more snow is forecasted over the next few days, ICBC says it’s important that you do not pass snow plows when they’re out. It’s not safe because the plows could be equipped with a wing blade on its left or right side which can be obstructed by the snow it’s throwing.

If you don’t have to be out on the highway, then postpone until another time when the conditions improve.
