Toronto FC’s Alejandro Pozuelo cheering on Raptors and fellow Spaniard Marc Gasol

TORONTO — Count Toronto FC midfielder Alejandro Pozuelo as one of the growing number of Toronto Raptors converts.

The Spanish playmaker and his son, along with teammate Chris Mavinga and former TFC star Sebastian Giovinco, were at Scotiabank Arena for Saturday’s Eastern Conference final-clinching win over the Milwaukee Bucks.

“The night was amazing,” said Pozuelo, who sat out TFC’s loss to San Jose on Sunday due to suspension. “The city, for the people in the stadium, around the stadium (outside) and also for my kid … Amazing.”

Since coming to Toronto, Pozuelo has become friends with Raptors centre Marc Gasol, a native of Barcelona.

“One of the more important (players) in the team with (Kawhi) Leonard,” said Pozuelo. “I like these two players.”

Pozuelo will have to watch Thursday’s Game 1 of the NBA Finals against Golden State on TV. Toronto flies to Vancouver on Wednesday for a Friday date with the Whitecaps. The five-hour flight is twice as long as his longest road trip — a 2 1/2-hour bus trip — while playing for KRC Genk in Belgium.
