PRINCE GEORGE— Minds in Motion is a weekly class run by the Alzheimer Society of BC. It includes 45 minutes of fun exercise and 45 minutes of social time for people in early or middle stages of dementia, their care partners, friends and family.

Over 402,000 seniors are living with dementia in Canada. People with dementia suffer from memory loss and have difficulties with thinking. It’s progressive, meaning the symptoms gradually get worse as more brain cells become damaged and eventually die. Participation in cognitively stimulating activities, and social engagement help delay dementia symptoms. Minds in Motion provides a safe space to do both, and encourages participants to get out and continue to live a meaningful life.

There have been a variety of people in the program over the years, including some who have been part of the program since it started eight years ago.

“I’ve been coming here for maybe eight years and I love it.”
