Wildfire along Highway 37

SMITHERS — The BC Wildfire Service is busy responding to a wildfire near Highway 37, about 75 kilometres north of Meziadin Junction and four kilometres south of Bell II.

The smouldering ground fire – first reported late last night – covers about 10 hectares near Mehan Lake, on the west side of the highway, and is not spreading quickly. Twenty firefighters and one helicopter are currently on scene, with 20 more on route.

The BC Wildfire Service says smoke will likely be visible from Bell II and along the highway. Travellers are asked to use caution while passing through the area.
