RCMP incident involving firearm detours traffic

PRINCE GEORGE–UPDATE: Police say that at approximately 11:20 this morning, officers were able to resolve the situation without incident. The highway was reopened to traffic shortly after.

UPDATE: Witnesses say the the Emergency Services team is on scene of the incident, the Highway is no longer being detoured.

EARLIER:Traffic is being detoured on a portion of Highway 97 after a police incident involving a firearm this morning (Aug.15.)

RCMP say that at around 9:30 am (Thursday, Aug.15) they responded to a report of a man with a firearm at a residence on Highway 97 near Christopher Drive at the north end of Prince George city limits. Police are asking the public to avoid the area until further notice.
