The Northern Capitals are among the many hockey teams eagerly awaiting their return to the ice this August. The female Major Midget team kicks off tryouts on Friday night and will see their fourth head coach in four years take over behind the bench. The difference is, this one’s been there before, and actually coached the team to back-to-back championships. He won Coach of the Year in 2016 after leading the Capitals to two straight championships, and now Mario Desjardins returns. The Terrace-native spent the last two seasons coaching Bantam with his assistant coaches and former players Grace Barlow and Lauren Smaha-Muir. All three expect big things from the group this season.
