From trees to artwork–some of the old trees outside Prince George City Hall have been transformed into pieces of art, for a good cause. The art work is being sold to raise money for the Prince George Wood Turners Guild.The trees had to be removed as construction in front of City Hall was beginning.

$700 earrings stolen and returned, a robbery with a happy ending

Pepper Tree Hair Studio was the victim of a break and enter theft on Wednesday Aug.14. A jewelry box filled with pieces made by local indigenous artists was stolen. The box also held the most expensive piece of jewelry the store had ever sold. Although the items were stolen, the earrings were found by a good samaritan who reunited the jewelry with their owner.

Province announces free driver training for Indigenous peoples in the North

The BC government announced free driver training for more than 1,000 Indigenous peoples in northern BC. The province says it is investing $360,000 in courses and services for people to secure their Class 7 learner and novice driver’s licenses. The government says the training will help people travel to work, visit family, access health care and participate in BC’s economy.

Strong winds cause fires to grow in Cassiar Zone

Two fires in the Cassiar Fire Zone grew on Tuesday after strong winds were forecast. The Southwest Tagish Lake fire grew and is estimated at 890 hectares, however is smaller than was first estimated. The second fire is located around 50 km west of Telegraph Creek, the winds caused that one to spread southwest and currently covers 4,600 hectares.
