Illicit drug deaths down the first half of 2019

PRINCE GEORGE — The BC Coroners Service has released a new report which shows illicit drug deaths were down province-wide the first half of 2019.

In June, there were 73 suspected illicit drug deaths in BC, a 35 per cent decrease from the previous June and a 15 per cent drop from the previous month.

In all, 538 people died the first half of 2019 – a 30 per cent drop from the first six months of 2018.

The Northern Health Authority had the second highest rate of overdose deaths in BC at 22 deaths per 100 thousand people.
