PG Search and Rescue assisting with search for a 4-year-old boy near Mackenzie

MACKENZIE— Update: George Benoit, the boy that went missing yesterday afternoon, has been located and is safe.

North District RCMP Cpl. Madonna Saunderson confirmed the news this evening to CKPG Today.

“George was found tonight by a police dog wandering in the woods,” she said. “He’s safe and sound and has been reunited with his parents.”

George was missing since yesterday afternoon. He went missing while his mother was picking berries in the Lion Lake area near Mackenzie.

The disappearance set off a massive search and rescue effort along with an outpouring of support and help from the community.

Earlier: Mackenzie RCMP were notified of a missing four-year-old boy yesterday (August 17) afternoon in the Lions Lake area.

The child was with his parents berry picking when he was separated from them at 12:36 p.m. First line officers responded immediately and called for assistance to aid in the search.

Police and Search and Rescue from Mackenzie, Prince George, Fort St. John, Fort St. James and Chetwynd are looking for the missing boy. PDS from Prince George are on scene and RCMP air support has been called to assist.

Anyone who wishes to help in the search are asked to report to the command center set up at Lions Lake Provincial Park.

George was last seen wearing a bright blue coat with a hood, a black shirt with glow in the dark lettering and dark navy pants. He is 3 feet tall and has short dark auburn hair.
