The Parkinson Superwalk is the single most important fundraising event of the year for the Parkinson Society of BC.

This years edition of the event in Prince George took place Saturday at Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park as organizers and members of the local support group raised funds and spread awareness about the disease.

It’s a disease which residents may not know a lot about, but is one people should start familiarizing themselves with.

Parkinson’s is a neurodegenerative disease which affects ones motion.

Don Summerfeld has had the disease for 4 years and joined the local Prince George support group once he was diagnosed.

He shared to CKPG Saturday the event is about spreading awareness.

“There is a lot of input to the knowledge of Parkinsons and what it is all about. The group makes you feel very welcomed and puts down the barriers which you think might be there. Half of us don’t even know what it is all about.”

Numbers continue to grow in B.C of people affected by the disease.

“Right now it currently affects 13,000 people in B.C alone,” revealed Support Group Facilitator Ron Corbett.

This year the local group raised $13,208 for the Parkinson Society of B.C.

The goal province wide was $440,000
