Safety upgrades on transit, for drivers

BC Transit and Arow Global Corporation are moving forward with a full driver door designed at increasing protection for drivers.

The project to add the full driver door will cost around $6.5 million and will see the addition of a laminated tempered glass with anti-glare coating and a metal base added to double deckers, heavy duty buses (regular 40 foot transit buses), and medium duty buses across the province.

According to a release by BC Transit, they are on track to have new replacement, and expansion buses come with the new door already installed by as early as late 2019. Busses will begin to be retrofitted in early 2020 starting in Victoria followed by Kelowna.
