Strong winds cause power outages in Interior

PRINCE GEORGE — Update: BC Hydro has downgraded the number of power outages to just 46 customers in the Prince George area and 6,600 from 100 Mile House northward.

Earlier: Wind gusts have been responsible for leaving thousands of Interior residents without power today.

BC Hydro’s Bob Gammer says over 1,100 of its customers are without power from Prince George down through Quesnel and into Williams Lake.

That numbers jumps to around 10,000 though when you stretch all the way down to 100 Mile House.

Over 350 of those customers are located between Prince George and Vanderhoof.

He says wind is pressuring trees to come into contact with power lines which in turn is causing the power outages.

According to Environment Canada, wind gusts are forecasted to drop substantially by tonight in Prince George.
