PRINCE GEORGE — With your help, Operation Red Nose Prince George is getting set to ride again.

The designated driving service, now entering its 22nd year, is seeking volunteers for nine nights of service: Nov.29, 30, Dec.6, and 7, Dec. 13 and 14, Dec. 20 and 21, and New Year’s Eve.

Spokesperson Andrea Johnson says they’d love to have 300 volunteers to meet the demand for rides, noting “Our volunteers who return year after year have a great time knowing they’ve made a difference in the community.”

Volunteers must be 19 years of age and have a valid driver’s license. They can be part of a road team of three or work behind the scenes answering phones at Operation Red Nose headquarters.

She says the process to apply for those who have volunteered with Operation Red Nose the last three years with a clear Criminal Record Check has been streamlined.

They are asked to fill out their application online, print it off, sign it and drop it off with Karen at T & S Communications, 2276 Nicholson Street.

All new volunteers, or those with less than three years of experience with Operation Red Nose, must fill out a standard application that includes a Criminal Record Check.

On average, about 15 road teams of three will be on call each night of service, working from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Donations that Operation Red Nose receives from clients stay local and go directly to local youth and amateur sport organizations.

Last year Operation Red Nose offered 959 safe rides home.

The service is organized by the Rotary Club of Prince George-Nechako.
