HOUSTON, BC–A protestor was arrested for interfering with the work of the Coastal GasLink project.

Houston RCMP say that officers were conducting routine patrols on Morice River Forest Service Road corridor on Wednesday, Nov. 6th when they ran into a sub-contractor work vehicle being blocked from continuing to travel the road by three protestors.

Police proceeded to ask the protestors to allow the vehicle to pass-through, however one woman refused to comply with police orders and was arrested for breaching the BC Supreme Court-ordered injunction against persons interfering with the Coastal GasLink (CGL) project.

The 29-year-old woman was processed that the Houston RCMP detachment and transported to the Smithers RCMP detachment to appear in court Thursday, Nov.7th.

CGL were in contact with the RCMP and after reviewing the incident, they advised that they had inadvertently not followed an agreement that they had made with the protestor regarding access. Given the information, the RCMP released the protestor with the understanding that the matter would be resolved between CGL and the protestor.

RCMP are reminding the public involved in protests that police are an impartial party and are there to ensure the safety of everyone involved.
