UNBC Faculty Association asking Labour Minister to step in on bargaining
PRINCE GEORGE – As the end of the semester nears its original scheduled conclusion, the UNBC Faculty Association is calling for the Minister of Labour to appoint a Special Mediator to help bring bargaining to a conclusion.
Regular classes at UNBC end on December 3rd, the FA says there is almost no chance of saving the semester without disrupting next semester if an agreement is not met this week.
“Faced with eight months of the Employer’s stubborn insistence that we do something illegal, the Faculty Association is now calling on Minister of Labour, the Honourable Harry Bains, to appoint a Special Mediator,” said FA President Stephen Rader.
In a press release, the Faculty Association claim to have a proposal that falls within the Employer’s financial envelope but has been faced with what they describe as unacceptable demands in addition to the right to violate contracts.
