PRINCE GEORGE – It was history in the making. For the first time in 73 years, the Lheidli T’enneh hosted a potlatch, or Baht’lats, in the House of Ancestors. The occasion was used to forge a strong and unique relationship with School District 57.

“It’s about the kids,” explains Chief Clay Pountney. “So in the end, it’s about the accountability and the transparency and the trust between Lheidli and our territory and our kids who are getting taught within it. ”

It is the first time that relationship has been formed in Canadian history.

“It’s history in the making. [The Bahlt’lats] hasn’t been around for 70 years, is what I’m hearing. I know there’s one that a lot of the elders talk about that was in the late 20’s. So it could be up to 90 years. We’re just learning our history as well.”
