“We’ll be fine”: UNBC’s President confident in enrollment numbers moving forward despite job action
PRINCE GEORGE — Two strikes in five years at UNBC and the current job action still ongoing, is likely not the kind of thing potential students would want to see when picking a school for their post-secondary education.
Dr. Daniel Weeks said it would be naive to think numbers would not take a hit due to recent strikes but is confident in the university’s reputation and recruitment efforts.
“We’re a little more prepared, we’re a little more resilient, I would say, today than we would have been just a few years ago,” UNBC’s President said. “Nevertheless, these events are not good but I think we’ll be fine.”
Weeks recalls the recruitment position UNBC was in during the 2015 strike. At the time, recruitment and enrollment numbers were trending in the wrong direction. He notes efforts to improve recruitment for the school both in Canada and internationally, which could alleviate some potential issues.
