Kettle Campaign off to a slow start

PRINCE GEORGE – With just two weeks to go until Christmas, the Salvation Army is experiencing a slow start to this year’s Christmas Kettle Campaign.

In the past few years, the charitable organization would be sitting between $120,000 to $130,000. However, this year, they’re currently sitting at $100,000 raised.

Salvation Army’s Neil Wilkinson told CKPG that they understand there are several economic factors that might be impacting their fundraising efforts.

“We’re not surprised because there has been a number of strikes and businesses being impacted by closures. We’re seeing a little bit of an impact and we’re also cautiously optimistic to think that this community that has such a big heart is going to be able to come through for the charities that need them the most.”

The funds that are raised during the holiday season are the funds that help many charities continue to operate.

“Without the success of the Christmas Kettle Campaign, it’s going to make ends meet at the Salvation Army and continue to provide care to those families,” said Wilkinson.

The Salvation Army is also searching for volunteers to help with the 12 various kettle locations throughout the city.

The fundraising goal for the Salvation Army is $300,000. In previous years, their goal has sat at $250,000 but they have seen an increase in demand for their assistance, as well as overall costs for them to continue to provide that support to the community.
