Successful City program winding down

PRINCE GEORGE – One of the City’s two tax incentives programs designed to attract housing development is set to expire in a year from now. The first was designed to attract housing into the downtown, while the second was created in December 2014 to inspire multi-family development anywhere in the city.

“The program was designed to capture several City goals,” explains Tristin Deveau, Planner for Sustainable Community Development. “The main thing is multi-family development. At the time, when we developed the program, we felt there wasn’t a lot of multi-family development happening.”

As an added bonus, the tax incentive program required that half of the units had to meet an adoptable standard.

“Another need that we were seeing was housing that was appropriate for reduced mobility or those who wanted to age in place.”
