Special Mediator provides final report

UNBC Update: Parties agree with mediators report

PRINCE GEORGE – On Tuesday (Dec. 17), the Special Mediator appointed by the provincial government provided his final report to the Employer and Faculty Association bargaining teams.

Trevor Sones has made a number of recommendations in his report; he has recommended a process called “final offer selection arbitration” to address a number of items, most notably the differences between the teams’ proposed compensation structures.

The parties have 10 days to accept or reject the recommendations. The Employer has agreed to all of the recommendations in the Special Mediator’s report. The FA has also indicated its agreement, which means the parties must agree to a third-party arbitrator by the end of the business day on Jan. 3, 2020.

In a tweet sent out by the UNBC Faculty Association, with their acceptance, job action will cease immediately.

According to the Employer, the hearing process is to start by Feb. 1, 2020, unless the parties mutually agree to extend that deadline.
