Tough year for Salvation Army Kettle Campaign

PRINCE GEORGE — Donations to the Salvation Army’s Kettle Campaign were down this year.

In Prince George, just over $186,000 was raised. That’s down from $211,000 last year. Their goal was to bring in $300,000.

The Salvation Army says economic pressures may have contributed to this year’s lower total including local store closures.

Money raised goes towards Salvation Army programming, which may take a hit due to less money being raised.

“To be honest, our goal this year was a little more aggressive in the sense that what we were trying to do was build on the service we are able to provide,” says Community Ministries Director Roy Law.

“And we may have to change how we do that. Services may not be as grand as our dreams were in trying to connect with the community this year.”

For instance, he says they were hoping to offer a program that offers one-on-one counselling to those going through personal challenges.

Despite the lower total, Law says the Prince George Salvation Army remains extremely grateful to all that made donations.

“We’re definitely happy with the communities giving and we’ll never go unthankful for that.”

If you’d like to give you can still do so by dropping off a donation at their office located at 3500 18th Avenue.
