A whirlwind year for Lheidli T’enneh under new leadership
PRINCE GEORGE – It’s been a busy 2019 for the Lheidli T’enneh, especially for Chief Clay Pountney, who became the first newly-elected chief for the band in 15 years.
In April, Pountney won by a margin of 15 votes, defeating the long-running leadership of Dominic Frederick, who was first elected in 2004.
Since taking office, the Lheidli T’enneh have continued to complete many projects started by the previous chief and council, while also working on new ones under their new-found leadership under Pountney.
Oct. 2nd was a historic day for the Lheidli T’enneh and UNBC. Pountney and UNBC President Dr. Daniel Weeks inked a deal that built upon a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2016 that would provide free tuition to students from the local band.
