Haida Gwaii residents asked to conserve electricity use through cold snap

HAIDA GWAII — Conserve your energy use if you live on Haida Gwaii.

That’s the message from BC Hydro who is asking all customers in the Village of Queen Charlotte, Skidegate, Tlell and Sandspit to conserve electricity use from now through the current cold snap we’ve been experiencing.

“We are experiencing very high power demand which could cause the system to overload and result in outages,” reads a message from the Haida Gwaii Emergency Notifcation System.

“Please turn off unneccessary items and be PowerSmart with all your electricity use, especially during breakfast and dinner hour peak usage times, so that we may maintain services to all customers and avoid potential delays in restoring power.”
